Techniques: Katora Biggie - Ride the Wind (2014 Version)

(August 2014)

Two years have passed and my dear Biggie's T-Shirt has begun to show some wear and tear, and since he likes it so much, I decided to buy him a new one. This time I did a small touch-up to the 2012 version). I hope he likes the new T-shirt as much as the new one :)

Side Characters: Bloodrage Barbarion

I originally sketched his design back in 2009, but only now did I manage to make a full-colour version of it (for various reasons). Barbarion's cub version, however, is this week's addition ^^ I wondered what he'd look like as a cub and this is what came out of it.

Techniques: Katora Biggie - Firewind Tiger

Note: I've noticed that there are a lot of pieces of art missing from this blog, so I'm going to spam post them now. The descriptions will be the original dA descriptions, so they may be inaccurate.

Digital version of a drawing from May 2013. I finally got down to finishing it, so here it is.

Katora Biggie is fortunate to be able to masterfully manipulate both fire chakra - the staple chakra nature of his clan - and wind chakra, which enables him to launch a devastating fire-wind combination technique dubbed the Firewind Tiger Technique. He summons both a fire-chakra tiger and a wind-chakra tiger and then combines them into a monstrous firewind beast that annihilates his foes. Let them burn! ^^

Miscellaneous Art: The Three Guardians

I've had quite a long break from drawing, so at the moment you can imagine I'm trying to remind myself how to draw. I'm getting mixed results, so not much gets finished, really, in spite of the amount of sketches piling up.

The above is the first one of such pieces that I actually managed to complete. At that, I've made a few different versions of it, including one with a name on each panel, a black-and-white version, and a coloured version. So if I come back to these WIPs and finish them, I might submit them here, too.

When it comes to the idea behind this page, it's based on an idea I had for one of the pages in the Shinjuugakure comic's second chapter, when the three nekonin meet with the Tsumekage in his office. I'm not sure at this point whether or not I will use the above page as the page in the comic, or just redraw the whole thing, since the comic page is similar to it, but has a few minor differences. As far as the colours are concerned, they're obviously based on each character's favourite colour / the predominant colour of clothes they wear.

Okay, so now it's time for me to go back to the heap of unfinished sketches (and the unfinished pages of the first chapter of the comic *cough* *cough*). If anything gets done, I'll submit it here and to my dA page (http://pumidlo.deviantart.com), of course.

Till next time!

Chapter 01: An Unexpected Mission - 17

Oh my, it's the next page! I actually haven't had too much time lately to draw, but I at least managed to finish off page 17. I also now know, more or less decisively, how many pages to go we still have before the first chapter is done, so let me tell you that there are 24 (maaaaybe 25) pages in total. That leaves us with 7-8 more pages still, but they are sketched already, so they just need to be inked when I have a few hours to spend.

In the meantime, enjoy the current page, and see you again soon, I hope.

Techniques: Bloodrage Mangetsu - Ancestral Form Final Concept #2

The Ancestral Form technique is one of the first techniques I came up with for Mangetsu and the whole Bloodrage family of Shinjuugakure, but one which I had an especially hard time to come up with a design for until last week. I had a difficult time deciding on what exactly it should look like. I knew that I wanted it to, in some way, resemble sabertooth cats, but apart from having long fangs and a few blotches here and there I couldn't quite come up with a body design that would fit the realities of a shinobi battlefield, namely, that would be both designed for speed and strength. In my sketches, I went through massive quadrupled hulks to some weird bipedal hybrids. Another issue was whether or not the users should be naked or retain their clothes, and if they were to be clothed, would it be the same clothing they wore before using the technique, or would it change? These were just a few of the questions I had to answer myself while sketching the final design. Inspiration came finally to me last week and it turned out I went for a little less smilodon-like look in favour of a 'wilder' image of a given individual that would also, however, show an increase in power. Thus this concept art was born.

As for the technique itself, Ancestral Form is a semi-transformation jutsu that relies on, and takes advantage of, the Bloodrage bloodline limit, the Fiend's Eye (the Akumagan). In order to execute the technique, one focuses on one particularly angering memory, or the situation at hand, and harnesses the rage caused by it to transform. Once in the Ancestral Form, the user's chakra capacity, speed, physical strength and response time are greatly increased, with an almost complete immunity to pain, giving them a major advantage in mostly hand-to-hand combat. In this state, the user is also able to execute more powerful versions of techniques they already know, which would otherwise be too taxing to perform. The Ancestral Form can be compared to a berserker's rage and is what coined the clan's name in the past, which they then adopted.

The way the transformed user looks is different on an individual basis, usually, though, it is connected to the primary chakra nature of the user, or another technique, or feature, characteristic for them. Generally, however, females tend to have more delicate features and a more slender body build than males (which does not, however, make them less deadly). Traits shared among all Ancestral Forms are, however: increase in muscle mass and, usually, size, longer, more ruffled manes, large non-retractable claws on both hands and feet, two long fangs protruding from the mouth, the appearance of pads on both hands and feet, blotches on fur in various places of the body. The user's ceremonial markings or special clothes' patterns may also undergo a slight change.

Due to the extensive use of the Akumagan, the Ancestral Form is very taxing and cannot be maintained for a long time. After it fades, it usually causes extreme exhaustion in the user. Depending on training and the stage of the user's Akumagan's development, this can range from not being able to use the bloodline limit for a while to loss of consciousness, or even the risk of reaching close-to-death chakra levels. There are known examples of nekonin who died from injuries suffered while in the Ancestral Form after cancelling the technique, as well as those who drove themselves past what their bodies could endure and suffered the same fate after regaining their usual form.

Alright, this is it for now on the topic of the Ancestral Form. The above description is mostly final, I guess, if anything changes, I'll be sure to update this post on both the Shinjuugakure blog and deviantArt.

In the meantime, enjoy the picture and the description.

Changes, chages!

Hello and welcome after all this time!

A lot of time has passed, but that doesn't mean that I've been idle (well, for the most part at least). Although I haven't been drawing much lately due to other commitments and, well, because it's not always so easy to find the will and creativity to produce something of a good quality, I have been thinking about this little project of mine and I realised one thing: that while it's easy for me and my fellow speakers of Polish to pronounce the name of the main character and the title of the comic itself, it is not so for speakers of other languages. In addition to that, some plot developments which have been decided upon over the past few months further validated the changes that I'm about to introduce (and/or have already, like in the case of the page's logo, name and address). Namely, I have decided that the feline with the green Irish hat and the tartan-patterned scarf and the nekonin from the comic should be separated from each other, which is why the main character of the comic will from this moment no longer be referred to as Pumpshire Pumidło, but will assume the new name of Bloodrage Mangetsu (ブラッドレージ・満月). Logically, she is now a member of the Bloodrage clan. Following this change, it would make no sense to keep calling the village of the nekonin "Pumpshiregakure" - instead, it will now be known as 神獣隠れ (Shinjuugakure) and the title of the comic will now be 神獣隠れの爪道 (Shinjuugakure no soudou) translated to The Hidden Village of Divine Beasts: The Way of the Claw. Apart from the above for now everything else remains unchanged. I will edit the text in the comic pages soon to reflect these changes. Maybe I'll even finally properly redraw the first page!
And that's it for now folks, I expect to submit some new art here and/or on my deviantArt page since I've got some free time on my hands during the Christmas period. Speaking of which, tonight is Christmas Eve, so let me wish you a merry, merry Christmas! See you soon.
